Description

What I've been told about this wonderful building is; It was built around the year 1900, as a schoolhouse for elementary grade-level children (grades K-6) and was called "Hardawee School". In the early 1950's the building was left behind upon the completion of two newer schools in the area. Sometime shortly thereafter, the place was used as an American Legion Club, which continued until sometime in the late 1970's, since then it has sat vacant, used primarily for storage. My Dad (may God rest his soul) went to this schoolhouse as a child, until he was transfered to one of the newer schools, though I'm not certain what year that was, nor of his age at that time. Have a most wonderful Sunday, thanks for looking!

Oops! I did forget to mention - this building is located about 5 miles west of Enfield, North Carolina, at the Heathsville turnoff, which is in Halifax County. This image was captured on November 13, 2005 at around 4pm, using an Olympus Camedia C-700UZ digital camera. Thank you Cynlee! ;^)

Really beautiful capture of this old schoolhouse. I think the brown fall colors really add to the mood.
