2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY
Moon Bus
The MOON BUS is a strictly utilitarian vehicle from Stanley Kubrick's 1968 sci-fi epic 2001:A SPACE ODYSSEY.
It was designed to shuttle men and material to various destinations on the lunar surface. Capable of carrying six passengers, a two-man flight crew, and a limited amount of cargo, the moon bus used six belly-mounted rockets to fly several hundred feet above the treacherous lunar landscape, but did not have enough power to achieve orbit or escape velocity.
The render of the Moon Bus, Astronaut and the Moon surface is done in Bryce 4 in one "shot". The render was postroduced in Photoshop 7 (some adjustment on color, outfocusing and glow), where I've add also the "picture crosses", which are typical of the NASA lunar missions pictures.
The size and the distance of the "crosses" are taken from an actual NASA moon picture, as the squared proportion of the picture.
The Moon Bus .cob 3D mesh is finded around the web (I don't know the author), but the textures are mine. The astronaut is made in Poser 4, using the free Anthony Appleyard Spaceman (http://www.buckrogers.demon.co.uk/3d/3dthumbw_space.htm), some free Poser accesories and the Clavius Space Backpack by Ged Trias (a.k.a. gtrias) buyed here on Renderosity. It was textured in Bryce 4.

Most excellent! 2001 is one of my favourite movie. The moon map for the texture is a great idea. Just a point, I think that the photo "cross" are only used for vue taken from the top. Anyway the idea is excellent.

About the "photo cross": The crosses are not used only for vue taken from the top, but as you can see from this NASA picture at thio link: http://www.iolky.com/spaceprogram/flag_salute_Irwin_as15-88-11866.jpg The crosses are on all the Apollo missions pictures... :)

Amico mio, con questa immagine hai toccato il cielo... bellissimo soggetto, la superficie lunare perfetta, l'astronauta nelle giuste proporzioni, e il tocco finale delle crocine tipo foto NASA semplicemente la ciliegina sulla torta... probabilmente la mesh quella di Steve Burg (dal sito http://www.strafe.com/2001/) Manca solo il monolito ! My friend with this image you have touched the sky. Beautiful subject, lunar surface is perfect, the astronaut is right in size, and the final touch of the "NASA photo" little crosses is simply cherry on the pie... probably the mesh was done by Steve Burg (you can see it on http://www.strafe.com/2001/)
