Description

This photo was taken yesterday (December 20, 2005) at around 4;30pm, while going through Glenview, North Carolina. This most amazing phenomenon lasted about 3 minutes, before the cloud got too long and thin to be appealing for an image capture. I was fortunate enough to have a camera with me, so I pulled over and stood along the highway while I got this shot, even though the lighting conditions were extremely poor (imho). It was captured using an Olympus Camedia C-700UZ digital camera. Have a fantastic day, and thanks for looking!

Oooh weee! I saw one of those today, and together with the snow-covered trees it looked absolutely beautiful. So i ran inside to fetch my camera, but by the time i got out again....it was gone...sniff. Im sure glad you managed to capture it though. And what a capture it is. Gorgeous! Have a great day and a merry Christmas!!!! #:O)

Neat prism! Can't be a sundog since it appears the sun is behind the cloud. Sweet capture!

This looks very interesting. Optical weather phenomenons always fascinate me! Did you zoom to obtain this result, or is this just wide angle? Is the sun far left (say about one foot left of this image as you see it on your screen)? If so it might be a sundog where the red is more expressed due to the sun standing low above the horizon. Anyway, it IS an breathtaking capture! Stunning work! :)
