Nice Dan, I have toyed around with a U-Boat for some time now, never got a technique down that I liked. Did you use splines, cross sections, polys? All the above?
UVDan
Thanks for commenting. When doing plane fuselages and submarines, I like to use four curves to define the top/bottom and side/side profiles. I usually loft these four curves. Sometimes this does not work and I am forced to use cross sections. Sometimes the cross sections are lofted, and sometimes they are used to "sweep 2 rails" in combination with 2 of the profile curves used as the "rails".

Wonderful neat model, I also think in rhino from v1.1 up that lofts are the go.

Thanks ravenwing75.

I have had endless problems with Hulls of all description, submarines included! This looks perfect.
UVDan
Thanks mirith.

That is a thing of beauty!! Superb modeling!! What is it a type VIIA? Wonderful details! Did the rear cable snap? ; ) Can't wait to see the textures!!!
UVDan
Thanks Digimon. I just missed the rear antennas. Yes the sub is a type VIIA.

Wow!...very cool...I tried modelling a WWII British destroyer "HMS Cavalier" which I served on whilst in the Royal Navy between 1966-1968. My first attempt was with 3D studio for DOS..this came out a bit later than Autodek Animator..max res was 320*200 in 256 colours but it had a lofting section and was very easy to use. For that reason I shunned 3D Studio MAx for a long time thinking it was way too complicated..it still is although I have Max 8. Personally I think Rhino is about the best modeller around. You have done so well with it!..my second attempt at Cavalier you can see in my gallery..I just couldnt get the hull right and eventually I gave up..cheers and thanks for the compliment. :)...oh..if you want a buzz..try googling HMS Cavalier...if you get to the cavalier page click on crew listings and look at 1966-67 and you will find James "Jimmy" Bowling...myself...and the history of the boat in it's anti submarine efforts protecting the convoys..also very cool...cheers..
UVDan
Thanks I will definitely check that HMS Cavalier out. Ships are harder than everyone realizes. Probably not as hard as doing a proper car though.

Good submarine models are a favorite. Good renders of them are also a big favorite!
UVDan
Thanks Kixum.
