Description

Christmas Eve - time to reflect a little. Looking back on 2005 I see a varied history. Dark moments were a short depression back in February, the discharge of my former manager (a most inspirating friend) and another coworker sent to another university. In my church two good friends moved to other churches due to the worsened climate. A personal conflict caused me to take distance from my biblestudy group in which I have taken part about 15 years. Losing the direct contact of these four friends had a profound impact on me (all four they have been misjudged by Christians), keeping me over a long time in a mournful state. RR has been a safe place to feel myself free, to learn to know people (better). I could not only share my thoughts but learn how many of you experienced great and less great moments in your life. I feel priviliged to have been part of the community here, to have been part of many of you. In contrast with the hard experiences I have had many - innumerable - encouraging experiences that have restored the balance.
  • So, concluding these reflections I want to dedicate this one to the list of valuable people who have meant so much to me:
  • Gert (my former manager)
  • Wouter (the coworker with whom I shared my office)
  • Maarten (special friend)
  • Wim (my friend who joined my vacation)
  • Rachel (a.k.a. WiserAngel)
  • Sheila (a.k.a. tvernuccio)
Before you might start to think I have had it with Christians, I want to pass this thought. People can (and will) be disappointing, whatever belief they may have. Jesus Christ taught us just this simple guideline, love God above all and love your neighbour as yourself. I can't say it's Jesus' fault when his followers don't act correctly on that. When muslims are flying planes into the Twin Towers they show they understood as much of their religious heritage as medieval crusaders did, as well as any megalomaniac ideologist did. Therefore I keep 'looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.' (Hebrews 12:2) Christmas is for me the feast of light and with this posting I want to share the Light of the world to you all!

With any religion comes hypocracy. Humans are flawed. I often find that those who go around "boasting" about what a great Christian, Jew, Muslim or whatever they are, are the ones who are the most hipocratic. The true spiritual ones often keep to themselves and live their lives the best they know how. I'm sorry you feel disillusioned, but maybe it was to remind you to keep your focus on your direct relationship with God and not your religion. Religion is created by man anyway, not God. OK, enough of that. I love you dearly. You are a very important friend to me and a kindred spirit. I thank God for bringing such a great person into my life!

You are an inspiration to others, Jan-Carel. We all go through periods when we are rejected. I suffered seriously from depression, in my student years, until I discovered that God loved me and accepted me as I was. He does not cosset us. I once asked God, perhaps inadvisedly, for patience, and thereafter endured the worst six months of my life. To paraphrase the late Mother Teresa : "God never asks me to do anything which Is impossible. I sometimes wish that he did not have such confidence in my capabilities! " Your daily uploads, are awaited by many throughout the world, Jan-Carel. On their behalf I thank you. Warm regards, John.

I have truly enjoyed your shared images this past year Jan-Carel! In my walk of late, the Lord has reminded me that nothing lasts except His Grace. Friends are friends forever when the Lord is Lord of them...See ya around buddy!

your capture like powerful fire! I also be sad about the loss of Sheila and others. But hope you feel better now and your depression is gone. We all are not perfect and sinners, und ich glaube auch nicht, dass der Papst unfehlbar ist! ;o)
