I had another try out with bryce ... I couldnt figure out how to make the water better with the boat in it but anyway ...

Some people make the water surface out of terrains (generated using one of the fractal things in the terrain editor)for close up shots - gives a nice rough ripply surface. That being said however, I think a flatter water like what you've alerady got here suits the tranquility in your image pretty well. All up a pretty decent attempt at a night time image. Well done.
