For those who don't know the English/British tradition, Bonfire Night is November 5th and celebrates the foiling of the gunpowder plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London.
One of the ringleaders was named Guy Fawkes and on November 5th his effigy is burned on bonfires around the country along with the letting off of many fireworks.
