Born in Hilo, Hawaii and class of '66, I became very active in Barbells, Judo and love striking the heavy/speed bag. I've learned to Rollerblade and bike ride which is a very health sport. But time doesn't stop for anyone including for me. So my good friend Dave aka punaguy got me started in taking pictures. I'm having fun taking pictures especially hiking the mountains. I'm enjoying seeing the world thru your post on Renderosity. Mahalo and Aloha....Errol

Impressive capture of this volcano! No red dots here to tell me how large the landscape is, but I have the impression it's quite vast. Your horizon seems to be slanting a bit, but it's a gorgeous capture, would make me so excited I would forget all about horizons etc.! :) Love to see that layer of clouds and kinda inversion layer; above that the vista might be unlimited. What's the distance to this mountain from where you are standing? Fantastic work, Errol, these vista's are mind-expanding! Happy new year!

Jan-Carel. The distance from where I'm standing at to Hualalai mountain is approx. 27 miles. On the left would be Mauna Loa and in the back of me is Mauna Kea. The last activity of earthquakes was in 1929 indicating that magma was moving in that volcano mountain. Luckily no eruption occurred because the coast of Kona is just to the right of that mountain. Aloha

Lovely image of this impressive volcano in the distance. Looks a lot like a mountain as seen across the grasslands of Africa. Most excellent indeed. Happy New Year.

Hualalai is also known as the "shy mountain". The reason being is, it usually hides in the clouds. Very fortunate to have such great weather lately, so you could capture it so nicely. Happy New Years to you and the family. Nice seeing you for lunch. Aloha

thevolunteer...Never heard of that one before Stella. But the name "shy mountain" sounds cute. The meaning of Hualalai is uncertain. It is said that the wife of Hawaii-Loa was buried at the foot of the mountain. Her name was Hualalai and the mountain has been called that ever since. The word shy in Hawaiian is "Hilahila". Aloha

what a beautiful capture, ERrol! gorgeous scenery and magnificent colors! looks like you may need to tilt your image a bit to the left to make the horizon level. :) wow...still an active volcano despite it being since 1801 since it last erupted. i guess it must still be makin' noise and sputterin'!! fantastic shot!!!!
