Description

I wanted to do a couple of renders with the light settings cranked as an excersize in patience, one of the key elements I have seen slowly fading away in the Bryce community over the years. I have posted for a good deal of years using another username and some of you may recognize my style, some may not :), so while I still do not claim the title "master" and still even twinge at the label "artist" (I still have far more to learn despite the years and I love it that way) it has given me an insight into the evolution of the community and the art produced by the app. And now, THE RANT - Unfortunately it has become commonplace and acceptable to crank out renders like fast food, and assemble an army of siccophants who praise and gush over ability to slap 2D photos on a landscape of funky stock textures or pass off a sphere over water without expending any energy or expanding artistic boundries. I am saddened by this trend and hope it will pass. End of rant. This image is composed of some plants modeled in Xfrog and Max, stock treelab creations and a very simple mule deer modeled in Zbrush. The lighting and atmosphere are 100% Bryce (volumetric) with no postwork except signature. Render time was roughly just over 94 hours. If nothing else (even if you don't like it) I would hope this to inspire some to keep pushing Bryce,.. it can take it. If you simply feed it a little patience. My best, as always, to all.....M

An awesome and lovely scene! I really like the composition, the graininess, and the props you've used and created turned out excellent. As for the 94-hour volumetric render? You could have rendered it normally and layered in the same effects in Photoshop in mere minutes! But I've done the super-long renders too, and there's something satisfying about REALLY understanding patience! Keep at it, I do recognize your style methinks, and can't wait to see what you make next!

Beautiful render and awesome lighting, creates a real "mood" work! Love the depth and your object placement is spot on! Great plants/vegetation which add so to this piece...Can't wait to see more like this!! Don't know about anyone else, but I find a certain satisfaction from trying to do ALL in Bryce, and it can takes me months sometimes, to complete a work - No way can I just "crank it out"! Your comments are well made. Happy New Year!!

I came by the Bryce gallery today, cuz I've been away from Bryce for so long, I've just about forgotten how to do anything in Bryce at all - even what used to be the simplest things... I loaded it up, looked around at the skies and stuff, exited, and then came here.. for some inspiration, and maybe a little bit of insight. Thanks.
