Description

My first image of 2006 is also my first image using only IBL (Image-Based Lighting). I've placed the objects within a sphere mapped with an HDR image (a kitchen probe, as it turns out), and used only radiosity to light the scene. For a change, the render actually went relatively quickly: just under 2.5 hours. Everything here was modeled, textured and rendered in Cinema 4D XL 9.1; the teacup, saucer and spoon originally appeared in my earlier image, "Tempest in a Teacup." Happy New Year to one and all! ;-)

That sounds like a long time to render for a relatively simple scene. Perhaps you should play around with your settings a bit more, it took me ages to figure out which setting I could change so the rendertime went down but not the quality of the light. Regardless of that, I love this image, very original and excellent modeling!
