Description

Tela watched and waited. When the Trow pilot, Ahrini, called in....Tela saw an opportunity. Controller 9,Ivor, had taken a lander down to the surface. A lander that she had sabotaged before-hand with a remote-control chip in it's main computer. Tela had it shoot up the coolant lines to the Atmospheric Purifier down at Trashtown in front of the Holy Brothers of Refuge and the warriors of Bloody 32. She knew what the Trashtowners would do. She waited and waited and then initiated computer control of Ahrini's workbee. She hadn't had to wait long, though Tela was very patient. F'Loona, Ahrini's wingman, radioed her, "Hey,Reen! Have any idea what's happening? It's awfully dark down there!" Ahrini shrugged and replied, "I'm worried. This IS NOT Standard Operating Procedure." Ahrini contacted the traffic control hub of the flying city before her. "Traffic Control! What is our footing? Are we going to Air-Defense posture?" Ahrini had rotated her pod around and scanned the darkening landscape out of irritation. She was impatient. She noticed that Novo Paradisio Air-Traffic Control had initiated a lock-out on her controls. She started to say, "Traffic Control! I'm locked out! What's going on with..." F'loona screamed out,"TARGET LOCK! They have LOCK! Missile inbound!" She saw the flash of light in the darkened Trashtown as her controls announced that a missle lock-on was happened. Her craft launched itself toward the missle on an intercept course. She saw the light approaching her. She punched the MMI overdrive switch, the only control that was NOT wired into the computer controls used by Flying City 64. The Molecular-Motion Inducers screamed at maximum as the missile hit her port-side ventral plating and exploded, shredding her vehicle into bits. F'loona screamed her name, as Ahrini's radio shattered. She was shocked and surprised to notice that she was still alive. The radio was gone, as was everything except her power-sources, main framework, MMI engines and lift thrusters. She spiraled out-of-control towards the hostile surface below. She had no ejection seat, or parachute. She one chance to live-- Land an out-of-control wreck. Tela initiated a programmed return on F'loona's workbee, and then turned off the radio, so she couldn't hear the little Deva wingman's wail of despair at watching her friend plunge toward the ground below. Tela stood up as people ran onto the controller deck, when the red-alert sounded. She was a hero of the city now. Life was good. For some. Media is Vue 5 Easel
