Description

William the Silent played an important role in freeing the early Dutch state of Spain. He was assasinated July 10, 1584 in the city of Delft. This is where he lived in his last years and where he was killed with some gun shots. The Church tower is the Oude Kerk (Older Church) and the building where William lived is called 'Prinsenhof'. Many tourists visit this place every year and not long ago everyone tried to take some samples of the bullet holes which were still visible in the wall. In the end thet bullet holes became in a way canon ball holes..Taking samples of the bullet holes is not longer possible btw. Glass is protecting the holes now.

Lovely photo and grand history. Sorry to hear about vandals. Why can't some people just look without touching or taking?! Oh well. Atleast they'll be safe now.

He was a great man. Too bad he yielded the southern part of his country to the Spaniards.
