Description

Similarity Fairy Castle(2) and Railway Station Part 2, When the family had left the castle in the 17th century, it remained abandoned for 2 centuries !!. During this long period of time the elements turned the castle into a ruin. At the end of the 19th century one of the heirs returned to the ruins of Castle de Haar and decided to rebuild the castle. The rebuild was done under guidance of the famous Dutch architect Cuijpers, yes the architect who build the Amsterdam Central Railway station in Amsterdam (1876 -1884). The restructuring of Castle de Haar took approx 20 years. In some areas, the covered central court, has the same structural elements as used in the railway station!! The today fairy Castle is only 100 years old, parts are still from the middle ages! During the month of September the family is still living in the castle and during this period of time in the year the castle is closed for the public. To be continued

Fortunately no rails here! ;) We could ask Nathalie to play Cinderella, to add a red dot here LOL! Fantastic work, Henk, if you would not have told this I certainly wouldn't have seen the connection! :) For those who like it, at http://www.irfr.org/stations.htm you can see the Amsterdam Central Railway Station (sorry, I can't add a clickable hyperlink due to html-restrictions in comment-boxes)
