This is finished! It is not a work in progress ANYMORE. I have been working on this oil painting on and off for quite a while, but now I have decided that this is finished as is... with my reference photo of Vincent Van Gogh's own self-portrait permanently included. All comments are welcome.

This is amazing! Being, myself, a Van Gogh fan, I relized it was him before I read it. This is spectacular! I love it!

Mmm! Do I prefer yours to his? Dare I say it? Impressive, and I like the understatement. I'm also intrigued to see a portrait of Theo. Did Vincent do it? It doesn't look like Vincent's work but hard to say for you would have transposed it. Cliff.

clifftoppler... in answer to your question about the portrait of Theo, I did it using one of the few known photographs of Theo as reference.

Interesting interpretation! I'm mostly taken by the background colors, and how they set a certain mood. For me, they almost seem ominous, giving the portrait a ghostly feel. Excellent job with the underlying sketch by the way. There's no mistaking him. You have a distinct style to your work that really gives it identity.

I did not know Van Gogh had a brother. What is sad is how much his paintings sell for now and when he was a live he was broke. Gorgeous image!

Very interesting, and good use of form and colour! I envy you your having finished this one. I seem to be in suspended animation between one large painting and one small sketch, and can't seem to break out. :(
