Description
"Dropship in orbit"
I was inspired by some of the pictures made by Rodos. Who, kind as he is, gave some links to some fantastic mesh sites. On one of these sites I found these two models from the movie "Aliens". Immediateley I wanted to design something myself in stead of wandering through the galleries at renderosity hoping to find some special pictures.
The final result didn't even come close to what I wanted, but that is because I still have to find out how to work with 3dmax. The planet alone cost me an hour or more. If somebody knows a tutorial called: "how to create planets!" I would be very pleased if he would send me the link.
Hope you enjoy this picture as much I have during these two days of making it.
Best wishes

I have a seen a tutorial in max itself in creating something like asteroids or a planet, that can be used to model a planet.

If you check your tutorials in Max there is one that creates an entire space animation including planets, ships, explosions. It shows how to texture, create star fields, and use lights to create the sun.

Yep, also take a look at solarvoyager.com for tips/tuts on all things spacy :) I think the planet is ok and it's the starfield that lets you down, but it's a good scene nonetheless

Thanks for all the turorial help and that is the second time I hear that the stars are not modelled that well. So I will not put so much blur to it. And of course look for better star maps. Thank you all.
