Description
This image is made for texturing practice, more exact displacemet texturing. Its the first time I made anything with displacement maps worth showing, its inspired by images made by an artist at the NewTek forum (his images can be seen at http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44318, fantastic images), he used Photoshop allot in the post process I only made minor adjustments like tinkering whit the highlights on the sparkplug.
The spark plug is one of my old models that I reused.

The lighting and the bluring of the foreground make this a moody composition, that is moody in a good way.

You could have used the displacement maps to make the threads and the cavity of the spark plug or even the ridges on the insulator but you chose the less geometric aspect of the earth and some cracks and dingleberries. Must newness always be so proud of it's wildness?

Nice...

Hmm, and there I thought displacement mapping was to help create areas of geometric complexity, not simple ones like ridges, which can be modelled with a single mouse click. Great image, lovely ground texture, keep rollin'.

Exceptional realism here. Well done.

Love the texturing!
