Description

On January 8th, 2006 (my birthday), my father lost his battle with cancer. Last November, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He suffered through an operation, rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments and untold amounts of pills and medicines. In the end, the battle was too great. The disease had taken it's toll. It stripped him of his ability to do the things he loved; to sit on the floor and play with the grandkids, to go fishing, to eat good food and so on. He was a very strong man, who survived a major heart attack 7 years ago. He walked around for three days before going to the hospital, he even went to work. They sent him home and that's when he went to the doctor's office and they told him, they did not know why he was still alive. One triple bypass later and he was fine. So, I look at it, as we've had him for an extra 7-8 years. Last Sunday, at 3:15pm, after saying his goodbyes to loved ones and friends, with his wife and daughter in the room, he smiled at them and slipped away. Thursday was the viewing and there were so many people. I didn't know half of them and it surprised me somewhat to see just how many lives my father had touched. You never really think about what your parents do and how they act when you're not around. I was very proud of him. So, it is with a very heavy heart, that I bring this news to you. I'm dedicating this image to his spirit and to my mother. Mom, I love you and I know that he's still looking out for you. I love you dad.

Dearest Rich, It is a beautiful dedication. When I first knew of your Dad's illness I thought I understood and you know that my heart was always with you and your family. Now I know first hand what it's really been like for you. It is my turn to fight this dreadful disease with my Ronald. It is so tough but fight we will. As we say so long to your great Papa, please know that our hearts are always with you. Love you much, Toni.

I am very sorry to hear this my friend! And I know how you are feeling, because today I was at the funeral of my brother in law. He was only 43 and died of a massive heart attack. I was also suprised to see the amount of friends he had, suprised but glad. My thoughts are with you my Friend, and this image is a beautiful dedication.

What a brave man you had as a father. I am sorry to hear of his passing. I know how devestating it is to lose someone you care about. I always believe that our loved ones are never truly lost to us for as long as we can share with someone our memories. I found a small book years ago that I gave to my mother. It was like a little journal that had questions about her life. Kind of like a diary that she will leave for my sister and I. Take care and hollar if you need anything.

I can certainly relate to this story with the exception that I was 3,000 miles away when my dad passed away and it still wreaks havok on my heart even after a decade. My thoughts and sentiments are with you and your family in this time, and it a positive note to think you had some extra time with him that possibly wouldn't have been granted. This is a marvelous dedication and memorial and I think he would very much be proud to see this and all the friends you have made here, albeit online, as well! Keep the positive thoughts going and try to move forward without forgetting the past, Rich. Excellent work and tribute!
