I've been a 3d "hobby artist" on and off since sometime around 2000 or so. I've never stuck with it long enough to get good or to learn any advanced techniques, but when I do "play around" I have fun.
I also started messing around with vector drawing, as I can't really draw. Using vector allows me to utilize shape deformation and tweaking to create my scenes.
As of right now, July 2018, I'm working hard toward a goal I've had for a decade plus, and that is to make physical card, dice and board games for adults as well as animations and some simple video games. To that end, I'm developing my own characters in vector. The style is simplistic but I believe it will be really good once I have several items completed.

Eryk, Welcome Back!! This is an excellent start with Illustrator. Your character is cute. Your presentation of him/her is nice. May I suggest that you emphasize your character more in relation to the words "Bat Thing". Also a slight extension to the last points on the wings (towards the outside). A slight gradual length in the last few points would give the wings a more bat like feel without changing the integrity of your character. The gradation in background works well with the colors of your bat and its style. Good to see your back. Well, I'm off to your website. talk soon KP

heheh funky lil dude. i'd check the comic strip on your site now, but i'm still living away from civilisation (i.e. i don't have a broadband connection where i am now), so it takes several centuries to load anything. i've never used illustrator, but i know people who use it and swear by it. good luck with the rest of it :)
