Description
Thursday was a very sad day for me, i had to take my cat to the vets to be put down. She had stomack cancer and her kidney's were failing and she had stopped eating. It's a hard thing to watch your cat turn from healthy, to a mere shell of her self. So i thought i would share a few things about her to show what a character she was.
I remember her rather starve than eat the cheap cat food you just bought.
I remember the way she used to turn her back to you sit down and let out a big sigh if she was annoyed with you.
I remember her bringing home live frogs gods knows where she got them from, as we live in the middle of a town. Then she would let the frogs go so you would come home to find frogs jumping around your house, and she would have that 'it was'nt me' look on her face.
I remember waking up in the morning to find her asleep on your back, and you could not move until SHE woke up so you did not upset her.
I remember reading a news paper on the floor and she would come over, and lay right in the middle until you paid her some attention.
I remember how it amazed me how cats can sleep 30 hours a day.
I remember how she would sit on my chair open one lazy eye look at me, as if to say you can sit on the floor mate because i am not moving.
I remember how she would wake up from a 30 hour sleep stand up stretch, turn around a few times then lay back down in the same position she had just got up from.
People keep telling me 17 years is a good but i wanted her to live forever not to much to ask.

Such a beautiful cat...isn't it nice you have such fond memories of her? It's always a hard thing to do, but the best thing when they are suffering. I'm sure she would thank you for her wonderful life and peaceful death.

Sorry to read the loss of your dear cat Flake. I to had to put my Becky down January 2 2006 because of kidney failure. She lived to be 19 years. I was with her until the very end. I have 2 other cats but the house is not the same without Becky. A beautiful photo of Flake.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful cat, Flake. My old boy, Garp lived with me for 18 years too short. He visits me in my dreams as Flake will visit you.

:-( Awe she was beautiful! I am so sorry...I know how you feel, we had to put down Simon, our big boy due to a disease and he was only 6. That was a terrible terrible day. I honestly don't know what I will do when our other two kitties are no longer with us, its a sad thought. Wow 17 years is a long life for a kitty, but your right why can't thy live forever.

My heartfelt sympathies. "That" trip to the vet is the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life. The only thing worse would have been to let the suffering continue because I didn't want to let go. The next worse thing would be to deny yourself the opportunity to experience the magic and comfort of another beautiful animal friend. Time will pass and the grief will be tempered with the need to share your life with another friend/pet. It may not be as special as Flake but it will be a good day for you. I have never forgotten those special ones but I have found new special ones in their on ways. You will also. You won't be able to help yourself I hope. Thanks for taking the time to express such a heartfelt bit of honest sorrow by posting this. It will bring bittersweet memories and an emotional moment to many I bet.

Beautiful cat! I had a cat that was born in 1989 too, but he only lived to be about 14 years old. We had to put him down because of lung cancer. After he was gone the house just wasn't the same anymore. He died in 2003. My sympathies for your loss. Yes, they should live forever, and it's not too much to ask for.
