Citizens, allow me to present my card. The Dark Angel's trail brought me here. The Whitby Indcident gave me the lead that I needed.

Hi, I'm Ian. Wife, two cats, motorcycle and a house full of WWII military aviation paraphenalia. I'm a bit of a 'happy snap-per', currently wrestling 'The Camera of Doom', a Cannon EOS 300d, into submission. Began career in an area where photography was part of the job, and it was done largely 'at the run' or through various doors, including helicopter doors. The documentary/narrative style is my forte, and I still prefer to work outside with minimal equipment, although I am now getting accustomed to working in a studio environment, to the extent that I have my own portable lighting rigs. My specialist subjects are bands, (either gigs or promotional) and the Gothic/Alternative scene, but not to the exclusion of anything else. Have worked with other photographers who specialise in the same fields of interest. Still learning to walk as far as Photoshop is concerned. It's a great way to learn about the art of photography, meet all kinds of people and make friends. Hope to make more here.

I assume this is called close because of the English meaning as being a small area. very interesting architecture and looks very old.
ScourgeofShadows
In England, a 'close' can be a narrow street or lane, possibly a cul-de-sac(because the access is closed), but in Scotland it can mean the en-close-d areas around the stairs serving a temement house or a narrow alley way between streets running between buildings , which may or may not be roofed. These may also be called 'vennels', in England similar alleys would be called 'jitties'. Edinburgh is full of these, they criss cross the city like pedestrian rat runs, and they are ancient rights of way dating from pre-medieval times. The width of this close is about the width os a medieval street.

There is such an element of entrenchment in these kind of places, the atmosphere still lingers and not the sort of place to linger in the hours of darkness. I like this a lot Ian, I really do.
