Gnarly image! This is indeed a very strange sight, like deformed fingers reaching out from below the murky surface. The title is perfect. Beautiful capture!

Ya know... when I first moved to South Carolina from Pennsylvania, I learned about these things real quick like. Nothing will trip you up worse than a cypress knee. One of these buggers sent me flying one night by our fishing hole. This image... kind of cool just thinking about how they look!!!
