Description

Hi Everybody, this may sound strange but I would be really grateful if you could tell me which version of this image you prefer - left or right. I am using Painter to turn 3D images into "graphic novel" looking images and yesterday, as I was playing with the "Distress" filter on a separate layer, I realised it was probably the quickest way to add dramatic shadows to an image. It seems to me that it works better, but having looked at both versions for so long, I don't know anymore... Could you let me know what you think? That would be great - Many thanks in advance :)

the one on the right has a more comic book, cell shaded look, so if your after the comic book look, then the one on the right i would say. excellent render by the way.

The one on the right is more dramatic & darker in mood.I suppose it depends on the feeling you wanted the image to convey. The left image has a feeling of a frightened creature trying to simply survive, whereas the right conveys a feeling of someone willing to do anything to survive, including killing.Hope this helps.

Left has a more,"Oh,CRAP" kind of feel to it and the right definitely has a, "DIE HUMAN SCUM" feel to it. Depends on what the story is.

I like them both but I think that on the left there is a better atmosphere

foreground of one on the right, background of one on the left. I think a combination would be appropriate.

The left one looks more natural from a lighting point of view!

The dark areas on the right are stronger than on the left, however the softness on the left is effective as well. I prefer the left a hair better, but depending on the mood you're trying to achieve, right may be the way to go.

Eh! As a stand-alone image i personally prefer the left one with the more realistic and soft look, but if you are going for a "comic-like" effect, i'd definitely go for the right one, with the stronger contrast!! I hope this help... and i wait for the long-awaited new comic (not to mention the even-more-awaited old comic... LOL! ;)

For Graphic Novel, right one. For Stand alone art, the left. But for personal taste, i like the left one, but would warther see the right one in a comic book. That help any?

Y'know it's strange, but I get the same impression that GRiMAge and DemonMage had. For whatever reason, the deeper/flatter shadows convey "comic book" more. We'll have to ask Scott McCloud; something to do with the intersection of reduction and iconography, I suspect.

~Awesome~ The only difference is the ambience, & it all depends if You want it foggy or clear :) I would prefer the right one... EXCELLENT work!!
