In the ancient days of men and gods, the kitsune held unprecedented power. They were often both blessed and cursed by those they sought to assist. Only the most powerful of these fox spirits were named to be Guardians, and their stern visage stared out from the gates of many temples. Very few had the bravery... or audacity to try and summon the kitsune directly. Susano, the head of the Kurayami Shinobi, did only because his need in the war of good and evil was so great. The one that answered was hundreds of years old, powerful in a way that very few of his kind was. Intrigued by the desperation of the summons, he answered it and asked only for a bond of unquestioned loyalty. He knew their heart and the battles that they faced would be the end of them all unless they were aided. He gave them powers forbidden to mortal man even though they were warned that it would drag them into the realms of night. It worked. The Kurayami family sealed the Demons away... and for His part, he lost his former name and the holy silver markings of his kind. From then on he was known as Kurai, the black fox, which could mean Prince or Darkness. He did not forsake his followers even though he was shunned by the One who made him and all but forgotten by his brethren. Kurai was a wild card that was not blinded to all that was light or darkness. He understood that things existed in subtle shades of gray and as the threat of the demon seal loomed again, it would take one who had a foot in both lands to bring balance back. Though it pained him, he sacrificed his true love so that she could be the one who could do what no one else could and then brought her back into the realms he took her from. Unfortunately... in doing so she was also the one who held the power to destroy everything he sought to save. At least if he couldn't save her first. FTCO 6.... Kurai.
