Description

I think these are actually young Cypress trees, which are beautiful in maturity, but are ugly (imho), almost mutant-looking as babies. Thanks for looking, have an absotively, posilutely beautimous Saturday!

I do not find them ugly either! This world is full of unbelievable beauty, sometimes bordering on science fiction. I have only just begun to really look... You did a great job capturing these 'mutants' though - good dof, light/contrast - +++

OK, truth be told - I don't really think they're ugly either, just seriously strange. However, "Ugly Babies" is only a title, and - I thought - a better one than any other that sprang into mind. They really are beautiful though, in their own peculiar way. Thanks for your invaluable comments!

I can't remember the exact name for these, but if I can remember right, they're "anchors" for the big trees, they send their roots down and send the "anchors" up for extra support in all that swamps muddiness. I learned about these while living in Ms. and traveling the Natchez Trace. There is "learning signs" all over the trails and thats where they teach you about the roots! Cool capture of these awesome things!

The tour of North Carolina continues. Never seen this sort of thing--but then I'm a west coast person. Who knew?
