Description

Hi everyone!Yippee! It's Monday! ;^) This funky-looking fellow is actually a 6" character replica that I have from Jim Henson's movie,The Dark Crystal.I was playing around with my cam and thought he might make an interesting photo. I tried to make him look as 'real' as I could.Which I guess is a rather silly thing to do,considering how 'unreal' he is,lol. But,of course,I tried any way. :^) So......what do you think...did I succeed?Do you have any suggestions for it's improvement?...This shot is a bit of a departure for me.So anything you say will be most appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to look at my 'work',and I sincerely hope you all have a wonderful week! Hugs, Marlene :^) PS-I apologise for not commenting as much lately, but I will be doing my best to catch up with you all this week.

Thats mighty impressive.....6 inches of wood...WOW. LOL. Id say you did better than good Marlene. #:oP I remember seeing this in the forum, and its soooooo freaking cool. Love what you did with it. Especially the hint of grass to the far left really makes the composition even better. You made it look as real as it could. HIGH FIVES!!!!!! Have a wonderful week!!!!! #:O) MAS4EVA!!!!!!

Looks as real as any shot from the movie! (A favorite of mine by the way!) It is hard to make anything manufactured look real, though most of this guy looks pretty good! The hand in the foreground could use a touch-up, though I'm not sure what to do...try superimposing a skinish/wrinkle overlay? Adding slight noise, then slight blur, can often help break up a "Plastic" look. But all in all, the lighting, and composition + low camera angle, make this look great!! And not silly at all!!! Great to see you experimenting and having some fun, doing something very different!!!

U know I love this...and not because you gave it to me for my B-day. Awsome job on this Marlene, it looks quite real for an unreal creature. I don't see how you could have done much better, though Eric's comment about the hand is a possibility. Top Notch work my fellow MASer! =]

Afraid I don't know the character so can't say what he loks like but I can say this is image makes the creature look very large so I would guess you have succeeded. The perfect lighting and dof is what gives it the sense of scale - superbly captured image Marlene :)

Only 6".. You made him look atleast 4' tall. The Dark Crystal isn't really my favorite movies, but you made this little guy look great..

Great fantasy imagery! Only two things I can think of would improve this image: (1) add a sparkle to each of the eyes, and (2) increase the shadow in each nostril. Then I think you'd have something that looks more alive than anything the Jim Henson creature shop ever created.

I can't see my edit, but I've learned that doesn't mean it's not there, lol.I added some sparkle to the eyes and shadow to the nostrils. Thanks Denger.

I remember "Dark Crystal" even though it's been along time since I've seen it. This is an incrediable piece and the only thing I'd suggest that might increase the realism might be to open his mouth just a little bit.

That particular adjustment may be a bit beyond my skills. But I appreciate the suggestion. -M :^)

I think you did a terrific job of capturing this guys character! I really like the slighty off kilter angle/pov. The dof is just enought to give focus to the face and those piecing eyes! You made this figurine/statue....come to life!

I totally loved this in the forum. Still do now. ...but ...but....where is your signature. I think I know what happened. The background is just perfect for the figure. It looks almost as if it right here in front of me live. MAS4EVA!!! this shot is a bit of a departure for me..??????

Never would have guessed he was only 6" high ... looks huge here! You did a fantastic job Marlene!

You've done well Marlene. With that narrow DOF this one looks quite natural. Perhaps you can try to change the light a little so that this bright spots in his (or her?? g) face disappear. That's the only point where it looks like polished wood or plastic. Having some grass in the lower left is great .. but perhaps a forrest would fit even better to this one?

I know I'm 2 months late in commenting on this pic. You did a great job breathing life into this character...The Dark Crystal is a really cool movie. I showed it to my students many times over the years. My question to you is...where did you get the figure and do you have anymore????
