Description

Way back in March 2002 I posted up to the alt.binaries.3d.bryce newsgroup some abstract images that I'd made in Bryce 5. They were designed to be desktop wallpapers and they work very well in that regard with your icons easily able to be seen. (except for some of the more extravagant abstracts I did. ;-) I used to make 'em when I was bored because I find them easy to make. Somehow I'd forgotten to post them up here into my Renderosity gallery. - So here we go..... :-) Z.

Thanks guys. ;-) -- The way I create these is very simple. Start with a new scene, add some Bryce primitives having them intersect each other, encompass the entire group of primitives with another huge primitive (ie. a sphere), give the encompassing primitive a very reflective surface like a mirror, and give the primitives shiny MATs too. (volumetrics work okay too). Then dive INSIDE it all with a camera and just explore using a single spherical light for illumination. - That's the basic technique and all there is to it! :-)

Oops. I forgot to mention that you should also size up (rescale) the objects to a large size so that you have room to move around in. - The reason for the encompassing giant primitive is that sometimes you may find being OUTSIDE the group of primitives gives pleasing visual results and it acts to give more 'space' in an image if it's set to have a mirror MAT. ---- Should you ever be 'stuck' and can't seem to get a decent image then try different MATs on the primitives, change lighting, move around, or (gasp) move the primitives themselves although I find that defeats my purpose of things being serendipitous. ;-)
