Description
I found this while out on a walk. I've seen these before but don't know what they are or what makes them. Anybody have any ideas?

That is an oak leaf gall, caused by an invading insect, possibly a wasp. We had lots of oak trees where I grew up, and saw these on many of the trees.

The idea, it looks like something after the flower (I know, doesn't help, you already know that) LOLOL But I like the shot!

Nice macro shot of this mystery object:)

Uh oh. I hope that's not an invading alien pod. If it begins to hum, and glow, RUN.

Grampafred nailed it.

I've always thought they were those 'puff balls' that you find in the grass at times, only stuck on a branch. Silly me!! Guess I had a great imagination when I was a kid. Nice macro honey! Glad I asked you about it. Now get out there and have fun, fun, fun!!

Great capture of this gall, now and then they can appear en masse! Wonderful work! :)

Wow I would have said puff ball too. The amish eat them like mushrooms. Fred and Mom cooked some up one time too I guess Puff balls are good eats. Probably not gall though..don't eat that unless gall and puff balls are one and the same. hummmm check first.
