Description
Ran across this pic of the first man to break the sound barrier while looking for something else. He had the Right Stuff. I think this was taken sometime around when the movie The Right Stuff was released I forgot when, possible 1983??
Update: This was taken at World Con 1983 at Baltimore, Md.

Yeah, the thing that most struck me was the fact that so many of the successful (i.e. they lived) early test pilots and rocket jocks were skilled horsemen. I suppose that developing a superior sense of balance and relexes must have been useful later. A photo of one of the truly great Americans of the last century.
