The magnificent Bald Eagle again folks.. Benjamin Fraknlin wanted the Turkey to be the National Emblem because the Eagle may not have the right characteristics I am so glad he did not get his wish and it is interesting to note that even in those days being PC is not new!! Thanks for taking time to look and any comments you care to make

Franklin saw the eagle as a scavenger not worth consideration. The turkey, on the other had, was self-sufficient, family-oriented (males assist in raisng the young), and a valuable resource in feeding the fledgling colonies. Remember, this was the wild turkey he wrote of, a muscular, very active bird, not the impotent, inbred freaks we feed on today. In the classic comedy album "The United States of America: Part One, The Early Years" Stan Freberg contributed a theory. The first Thanksgiving was supposed to feature Roast Eagle with all the trimmings, but a dimwitted cook accidentally put the turkey in the stove instead. "You put our National Bird in the oven?" Well, the two birds were just sitting there. "The turkey for the centerpiece, Charlie! Now what are we going to do? They're working on their little nut cups already. Guess we'll just have serve them roast turkey.... It's a little scrawny, though, don't you think?" I was thinking of stuffing some old bread in it to make it look fatter. "You do that....." That said, NICE PORTRAIT!
