Description
I sat in our solarium,
which is a long window-lined sunroom three stories up,
gazed out and watched two ravens
put on a spectacular show in the sky.
Ravens mate for life
and these two were definitely a couple.
Together they sailed on the wind currents in perfect unison,
swirling and turning this way and that,
enjoying their lovers dance among the clouds.
And then one of them took off, probably the male,
soared high above the other, then dove down with amazing speed.
I thought they would crash,
but with perfect control he swooped all around her,
playful, but careful not to harm her.
They continued their fanciful flight for a long time,
so content in their own perfect world.
Suddenly another raven flew into their air space,
swooping around the female, flapping his feathers,
showing off with grand bravado.
The two males soon were engaged in a battle of wings and swirls
and flying tricks that ultimately ended with
the intruder landing on top of a tall pine tree to rest
and sadly watch the couple fly off together.
This happy ending made me smile,
confirming my belief that
love is fun and worth fighting for.
This image was created almost a year ago,
for two very special love birds,
Christie (djeser) and Davy (Madasatadpole)
To celebrate their marriage on May 6, 2005.

LOL. Glad you celebrated before he left. Where is he ? Your solarium sounds like a dream. I love to watch ravens and all birds all sizes and species for that matter. I have seen couples fly and play like you mention. It is alot of fun to watch them. They are great. One of my favorite discoveries when I came to NM. I dont know if I had seen one before or if I had, I didnt know it. They are everywhere here !!! They rule !! lol. I didnt know they mated for life. They descend on our birdbaths in flocks. Amazing to see. Those huge birds trying to hand on to the edge of the bird bath.....and yet, they do it very gracefully. Lovely image to depict these wonderful love birds and human love birds. Great dedication too !!! I will have to check out the story of how they met. This is fabulous. So unique a dedication. Love it. HUGSSSSSSSS
