THE HISTORY OF FARIAH
(this is a reference to the "High Bridge to Fariah" image in my gallery)
Fariah , a city built by Elvenkind , a gift to their human allies in memory of their alliance . A city riddled with unworldly buildings of great beauty , most with features that defy all human understanding of structural design . Some of these structures look as if the very stones were spun into place like the web of a spider . Others display an almost flowing elegance as if their stones were grown from the very earth herself .
Though within the center hub of the small but elegant port city rests the true monument , a fifty foot statue of the mysterious cloaked figure and her mount , whom together , rallied the humans into alliance with the Overworld Elves at the battle of Grenasche .Without whom , the hordes of underdark drow and their cruel and cunning warrior preistess Ghezedhiel , would have surely won the day . This it seemed to the Ardhel would be the case that day , that all would be lost .
Though neither the deafening sound of clashing sword nor the cries of battle could quelch the thunderous roar that split the very essence of sound itself . The source of the commotion made known in an instant as the rain of crystalline shard smashed through the ranks of the dark horde . Three times the attack came , before the pale silvery behemoth crashed to the earth before them , snatching the Ardhel Queen from her mount . The shear size of the creature dishelved even the most seasoned warrior , a Dragon ! How could they ?!
The icy stare of the enormous intruder came to rest in the eyes of the Ardhel general , as to no avail the elven queen struggled to free herself from the new manace . Then with an almost calming glance , the strangest thing , the dragon winked ! What manner of evil was this beast ?!
The lone figure astride the creature drew back it's reigns , the frostlike gaze of the beast whirling to face the hordes before them . The enormous tail of the dragon smashed through the first ranks of the horde with the precision of an ardhel archer , tearing them asunder and stunning many more in it's wake , all the while drawing it's breath . That was it , she and the others had decided , that would be the sign , the sign that She , had the queen !
The Dragon lunged forward , it's massive chest heaving , spewing forth a deafening blast of sound and hail of icy shard , a blast which left a mass of frozen and shattered death in it's path , striking fear deep into the blackened hearts of the drow , sending others fleeing in terror . It was working , they were finally breaking rank . It was time !
The stranger uttered but a single word , a word which spurred not only the dragon but the Ardhel into action as well , as if to renew their vigor . The word which was spoken , came forth in their own ancient , and near forgotten tongue . A word simple , yet somehow so powerful , Rise ! The cloaked figures' voice rang out as if spoken by the dragon itself , Rise ! The reality of the situation now made clear to the elven warriors . . . It was time !
The dragons powerful wings sprang to life , and with the terrified and still struggling queen in his grasp , he took to flight . The shadow of the beast further amplified the fear of the drow horde , who were now trampling themselves to avoid their persuer . The Ardhel warriors taking full advantage of their renewed strength and the confusion created by the unexpected guests , seized the moment . Bringing to bear , the full strength of their remaining forces upon the now fleeing horde , the tide had turned ! The word of power spoken by the stranger , still echoed in their ears , as if somehow fuelling their passion , strenghtening them , unifying them . Rise !
. . . .to be continued . . .
