Everywhere people with camera's find their way in this world to make their shots. I like the art of taking realistic pictures, because it provides a way to show how I experience this world. It is a way for other people to look through my eyes.Nature ... exists primarily for her face, her look, her appeals to the heart and the imaginationGeorge MacDonaldJan-Carel Vierbergen
Picture courtesy of Ruut WegmanBIOIt is all in the family: love for hiking in the nature. Since my childhood I'm used to walk with father, brothers, cousins, etc., and take pictures (Minolta X-700 with 28-70 mm and 100-300 mm zoom) of what I see. I grew up in Ede (The Netherlands), studied Electrical Engineering in Eindhoven and I am working now as Coordinator e-learning at the Christelijke Hogeschool Ede (http://www.che.nl) where I implement digital assessments for students and assist students in DTP and creating websites.
Since I know little about photographing as well as computer science it was not difficult to find ways for putting images on the web. The only thing to look for now is to find ways for showing the slides in a convenient way. I tried already something at http://www.che.nl/users/jcv (Dutch only, click at Dia's van de natuur in Nederland en de Alpen), but this platform provides good means to share my pictures with others.
I hope you enjoy this!

Crikey, those are big 'uns! Marvelous capture altogether!

LOL! Everything you photograph, wheter its glaciers or crystals...you just have to capture bigger subjects than everyone else dont ya? LOL. Hard to tell how big they are when you dont have one of those red dots in it to give them a sense of scale, lol. If i saw a hiker hidden somewhere in there i would say that they are pretty darn big. #:oD Sweet macro buddy! Enjoy your day. #:O)

Fantastic this macro Jan-Carel, it realy seems Cristal, and not ice-one ! Never seen some formation of ice so big in this way. You've found a natural treasure my friend !!!!! Gorgious, I love that ! That reminds me the pieces of cristals of Giancarlo I've got in our house ;o)))) Have a wonderful day. Hugs. V

What a find! Zacko's remark made me laugh out loud and then I started to look for a red dot too. These crystals are beautiful.

I've never seen them that large. Holy Cow!!! What a terrific find!!!

They look hexagonal which is rare for ice cubes. I think these are natural. Your camera has pointed out a rare quality of discovery.

Lovely macro shot, Jan-Carel. Recently Glasgow was treated to a very localised thunderstorm, with the biggest bang that I can ever remember, followed by about 15 minutes of sustained hailstorm. The hail stones were much bigger than the broken glass from a car windscreen, and they just piled up outside. With poor New York city getting 27" / 35cm of snow the day or two before, I was glad when the hail eventually stopped. Regards, John.
