I took this photo of the butterfly/moth in September 2004 in a orchid farm just outside Chiang mai.

Its a Moth not a butterfly You can see the snakes heads at the wing tips which is part of its defence mechanism..

Beautiful moth. The more definitive clue for moth vs butterfly identification would be the feathered antenna. This is most probably a male Atlas moth, from the family Emperor moths, most of which are found in the Chiang Mai area. Excellent work.

Wow, impressive capture of this giant moth! Quite a stunning shot of this incredible fluttering moth, with these fascinating smelling-antenna's (to detect pontential mates of the other gender)! Excellent work! :)

It's an Atlas Moth, Attacus atlas. Wonderful shot! Moths have antennae that look like feathers, while butterflies have very slender antennae with a knob on the end.
