Description
I'd like to dedicate this image to my dad who died when I was very young. Would he be alive, it would be his birthday today.
I only have a handful of memories but among these, there are two in particular I more than often remember when I work on images. And they make me smile. I guess you could say I owe my dad my passion for art and storytelling.
The first memory is about how one afternoon, as I was happily drawing pages upon pages of triangular trees and big-headed people with sticky bodies, my dad decided it was time to try something different.
So he sat beside and showed me how to draw a superhero's face. It was a revelation. And the end of triangular trees. Drawing faces was difficult at first but after a few years of practice I was able to draw all sorts of characters.
The other memory is about the bedtime stories he used to read to us. One of my favourites was about a magical goldfish that decides to help a very poor fisherman overcome his misfortunes by granting him wishes. The fisherman's life is turned upside down, initially for the better, until the fisherman becomes over-ambitious and starts to wish for evil things...
It was a fantastic, almost never-ending story, and when a few years later I decided to read the book my dad read from, out of nostalgia, I discovered that he had made it up. The story in the book was about a man catching trouts...No magic whatsoever... Boring... :-)
No-one knows with certainty what lies beyond death, but this image is my "in memoriam" for you, dad, as a "thank you very much" for opening my mind. I hope you like it, as I remembered what you said and tried something different.
Many thanks to all of you for viewing it - I hope you like it too :-)

I'd like to tell you that the story about the fisherman and the magical goldfish was told numerous times by my auntie when I was little, and it went exactly as your dad told it, Sabine (I remember it almost word for word - in Flemish/Dutch). How nice to hear that someone shares a bit of the same memories! Your image is fantastic! Excellent and overall complete render!

Great cyber-arms! Wonderous image, too. We all draw inspiration from myriad sources and places magical and mundane. We can never advance beyond where we are, without knowing where we are from. I think you know where you are from. ,,/ ^__^

Your memories made me smile - they are very touching in a way - it's so sad he passed away when you were so young, but they depict out a wonderful and loving parent, that everyone would've liked to have - and i must thank him for helping you become the great creative person i've known! :) And just to enforce that impression, i can say that you've made a wondrous image, surely alluring in her own way (which, incidentally, is the way i prefer too... ;) and different! A fantastic ded for someone that must've been a fantastic person! :)
