Your landscapes are always worth a look & this one is no exception, looks like GeoControl is shaping up to be a useful piece of software. But I notice you've been using it with Terragen as well - is it a stand-alone app. or a plug-in? Thanks

I have this stange feeling that the surface your water pathes follows the surface of your terrain ... Water surface is supposed to be horizontal ... Why don't you try to carve the surface to create an actual riverbed and then lay down a horizontal water surface into that ... I mean horizontal in the bank to bank direction, otherwise it of course it flows down from the hill. Does it make any sense?

that would be the opposite, I want to do: Water follows the surface, imagine it has rained just before. Water is never supposed to be horizontal if it is flowing, only if it is standing, like a lake. This is the special problem, that is solved here: To get not water planes, but rivers , that flow down in a terrain.
