Description

Special thanks to Crowfoot, Mertext, Traveler, PhilC, Nerd and to all those whose work I assembled here. This is in remembrance of the many nights spent in the field in far off places on Christmas and for all those who have done so in the past and who are doing it now.

The idea is very nice but I think there is quite some potential for improvement: The background sky doesnt look at all like a sky, rather like a studio blue screen before the special effects set in. The ground texture is interesting but it could need a bit more detail. The same applies to the figure textures. Some shadows and a more nightly lighting would also be nice. By the way, is that the minuteman figure in the front right? Looks really nice ;-) And where did you find the union troops blue coat??? That one looks even better! I have been looking around for some while to find such a model. Cant wait to get your answer!

The background is plain blue, a night sky needed a horizon while the plane on which they stand is free floating (I used a gradient on the edges of the GROUND plane). A night sky also drowned the special effects (cosmic effects and AntonsFX enchanted cord) Lighting was a problem. I wanted a moonlit night effect but that washed out more detail than I wanted. I tried foggy and got foggy. There is no postwork. The Union soldier is available at BBay and is a new release from Crowfoot. The WWI soldier is assembled from available stuff although Crowfoot has an excellent WWI German and American collection also at BBay. The Springfield rifle is provided by Mertext. The Continental is a modification of the Minute Man (PhilC?) by adding military boots with spats as a part of the text. It's hard to see in this image but both the WW1 and WW2 soldiers are wearing puttees made by scanning pictures of same in military history books and adding them as texts/transparencies to hero boots. Improvement it needs, but Xmas got too close to fuss any more. Thanks for comments.
