Description

The Baobab tree (lives up to 4,000 years, circumference 90 feet = 28m) is part of a sacred symbiotic relationship with the Wahlberg's epauletted fruit bat for pollination. Its flowers open soon after sundown and produce abundant nectar at the base of each petal. They typically are visited by bats immediately after opening, dropping their showy petals by morning. What you see here, is not only the petals dropped, but for some reason the whole flower. One never really has the privilege of seeing the flower at close range, as it hangs at a height of 30 feet. So, if the bat goes, the tree goes! It makes you think, heh? Look at a friend's site for a similar story on the Joshua tree in the USA. I hope you found this exciting!

This is something and really beautiful. The Bats are out in force at nights looking for a meal. That center part reminds me of the guawa flower plant. Excellent job. Aloha
