Description

Vue5I - No Postwork I dusted off an old eye shader I was playing around with to try and improve the realism of eyes on close up renders in Vue. The top image is one with the new shader, the bottom image is the standard DAZ import with specular highlights added to the Corneas. I came up with a much simpler way to render decent looking eyes that is very generalized. Essentially it works by collapsing the Eyewhite, Iris, and Pupil mats into a single material and then applying a procedural shader to add some fractal type bumps and spots. The shader is adjustable to allow you to increase or decrease the wetness of the eyes. The eye reflections are handled with a reflection map so you don't need to screw around with lighting the eyes separately to generate highlights. I know from a purist point of view that this is cheating a bit, but it's decent looking, fast and hassle free. I'm going to make this shader available in the next rev of SkinVue2 at the end of the month.

WOW this is real an big imroovement! I see nothing wrong using refmaps for the eyes.. To get good looking raytraced reflections you have to build a complete scene just only for the eyreflection, this is to much hassle for a portrait render IMO. ~Uwe

yes, great improvement indeed, but one point of critique, if I may: the reflection in your new shader doesnt follow the shape of the eyeball. Yes, it looks like a reflection on a ball would look, except that the rounded shape of the reflection is in the wrong place compared to the eyeball. this is especially obvious in the left eye (left for her).

Wow, Dave, this is most excellent! The window reflection adds so much realism to the eye, but not only this, the eyewhite looks better too, like the veins have been highlighted or something, and the eyes look wetter too.
