Fantast image! Wow. The candle seems a bit out of place in that it doesn't provide much illumination compared to the orange light sourse, but still this is a great image with excellent detail and texturing.

Looks very impressive and its a professional piece of work - cant imagine how someone can make images like this with C4D...Hope to achieve this someday.

Really love that lighting. What was your setup like? How many lights did you use? I would love to see a 'making of' for this image. Hope you consider doing one. :)

Many thanks to all for the friendly comments. It makes me really happy to find this feedback. 2mv: The candle was one of the last things I put into the scene. Maybe I was afraid to loose the balance of my lighting. In two months I will see this with new eyes. Thank you. 2vhautala: I think I use only some percent of the features of c4d, but I dont know any other 3D-software, so I cant say something about the differences. Thanks and good luck. 2sdaniels: Yes, 3DLuVr didnt accept my submission. When the voting-booth was open I saw, that it should be a "Schrottplatz". This is what I meant above: "ashamed, now I know what a junkyard is". I made a sketch of the setup. Thank you for your interest. http://home.t-online.de/home/520004705923/setup.jpg Thanks again to all. 3Dieter

Staggering. Absolutely gorgeous textures, modeling and lighting. A 9.95 out of 10! The ONLY thing I find a little visually confusing is the perspective of the ladder. I'm not sure if it is the DOF or the scale, but the ladder (and objects contained thereon) does not seem to fit into the visual scale of the image. Perhaps it should either be closer to the open drawer with the man (taller), or more blurred. Considering your render time, I'd play with the DOF in post first :) Great and fantastic work!

3Dieter, I've been staring at your fabulous image for three days now on my desktop...it is exceptional! I must agree with high-rez about the proportional scale of the ladder and the objects on top (the glasses, and is it a book?). You've more or less established your world-scale by the prominence and size of the handles on the drawers. Extrapolating from that, multiplied by the number of drawers in the vertical dimension, the ladder is therefore too small, and if that is a book on the top of the ladder, that is far too small as well. Perhaps if you reduce the number of steps on the ladder, and make it a bit wider (so that a portion of it is outisde the lower margin of the image), along with an increase of scale of the book and glasses (the glasses sitting on the book perhaps?), this might help. The only other suggestion would be to vary the placement of the bump maps on the front panels of the two closed drawers up top...the same rough spot appears in the same place on both of them. I'm making these suggestions only because these two elements disturb me in an image that is otherwise one of the finest images in conception and execution I have seen in weeks. Where may we see more of your wonderful work?

This 3D?!? I can't believe my eyes!!! Now I know what the word "photorealistic" means. Very Impressive work!!!

Hi, and thanks again. Yes, the part with the ladder made me a problem from the beginning. I think the point was: I tried to place it best for the 2D-composition of the pic, and neclected the effect for the 3rd dimension (sorry about my english). The book should be a small notebook of a quirky old man, who is the master of this memory-collection. But this idea is not important, if the viewer is irritated. I collect all your helpful suggestions and this feedback motivates me to make a final version later. Maybe XL8 will have a better DOF, perhaps I will have a faster Computer until then, perhaps I will have more than 4 pics for an online-portfolio. For now I can give you two links for pictures of me: 3DLuVrContest 26. 8-O 3Dieter!!! I dont know nothing about 3D yet and this FANTASTIC work of yours gives me a lot of boost for me to start learning. THANK YOU. The idea, the design, texture, details, lighting, perspective almost perfect! However there is something missing with the candle. Can't wait to see some more from you 3Dieter. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
