Captain Robert April was the first commander of the Enterprise, not the Constitution. (unless this got changed in the last episode of the show Enterprise, which I never got into.) See the enjoyable, if apocryphal novel Enterprise (can't find the authors now on Amazon) for a read on this. (yes, I am the product of a wasted youth).
