Description
I have been thinking of doing a Leo workshop for sometime and i started a project but got a bit distracted with such things as radiosity and then i stated messing with all sorts of things like camera mapping, cloth, DOF, Lathes so i think this will make a good tutorial scene
The first thing i tackled was the drawing, i used a good LW tut for this and grabbed a Leo sketch from the web, I wanted the drawing to be more than just a flat piece of paper so i added a cube, camera mapped a book and used clothilde to drop the paper/cloth onto it
I added a few props with splines in lathe nurbs and instanced them
The lighting come from a sky object with no clouds and a plane at the back of the scene to remove the sky view, radiosity helps to give that warm feel, DOF adds the final touch
Well its not quite the room i was planing to build but there is so much simple stuff in here i think it will make for a good tutorial

For me, it's the DOF and lighting that make this image. Nicely done.

This piece is amazing, I really like it. The only point of contention I have is that the paper lays more like cloth than paper. Otherwise amazingly done.

Love the detail.

For the more observant of you the writing on the parchment is back to front, this is not an error on my part, leonardo often wrote using a mirror to make his writing back to front..why ?..hmm yes why ?

It is an amazing picture, well done! BTW Leonardo wrote that way because he was a left-hander and smart enough to do it "by his head" instead of "by convention" (and he was writing for himself)! Can You imagine the result when You write ink lines with a feather using Your left hand and You go rightward?--Ink bolts on both hand and sheet! And of course he did not use mirrors at all, he just got used to it as we do to the other way ;)!!!!

Besides the wonderful textures, you've captured that Da Vinci feel: it makes you curious about what he's working on. Now, I'll go check out that generous tutorial. ;)

I have worked out what that shadow is doing in the middle back of the image, it should not be there according to the sun's position what is happening is that the pots at the back are not lying on the plane, they are in fact levitating Ha Leo..never managed that trick did you ?

Lovely use of DOF. The atmosphere is so strong. Only the tiles seem a bit too small and regular as for me... Great work.
