Description

Shoot Info - Shot Wednesday, Mar 15, 2006. The goal was to recreate World War 2 era (1940s) pin-ups and Military Aircraft nose-art of the time as best as possible with limited resources. The shoot was shot with a High Key backlight and purposly trying to make the models look more washed out for an artistic painted mimic. Model - Catherine Allen. She's expierienced in Pin-Up photography, which made for some great ideas on the spot! A lot of fun to work with! Photo Notes - Starting out a new series with Catherine! I had new props and outfits for this shoot along with the ones from the previous shoots. This one here is with a 1945 replica (and I mean a perfect replica down to the comics and ads) of the famous paper during VE-Day (May 8, 1945) when the war in Europe ended with Germany's surrender during the last year of World War 2. This was a mix of two pin-ups from the time, one being holding the paper, the other being the 'peace' sign she's making with her hand. Photo Details - Taken with a Canon Rebel EOS 5D (12mp) and Canon 28-105mm USM lens. Shot at a studio where I work in Anaheim, CA.

She's really expressive! Especially like how the red coloring (hair/newsprint) create a visual relationship and make this POP!

That's 'V for Victory'. Her hand sign did not come to represent 'peace' in popular culture until much later. A slight distinction, but a meaningful one I think. Her expression really conveys the sense of joy and relief folks had when VE Day arrived. Great pin-up!

Actually, V-E Day was Victory in Europe... so it is good news! And yes, you are correct Dengar... it's not a peace sign and actually a V for Victory... my bad on that!
