ok, re-thinks his awnser, I sometimes think in terms of bryce. I read a tutorial on this somewhere. It may be me giving a poor description. It is mainly a function of atmosphere, a particle density (hence volumetric to me). Requires something to be against. I think it's more like atmosphere in P6 for ambient oclusion where you can change the light using an image as in image based lighting - whew, if I ever get around to reading the manual I could probably state this more clearly - sorry

I'm caught in three minds here. The woman is sensual which immediately draws me to her, then I appreciate the use of light & shadows, finally that little guy at the front just tickles me!! One of the funniest pictures I've seen on here, well done.
