Description
I dont normally post wips' but I'm away for a couple of weeks so I thought I would post progress so far. This was a racer built in 1927 for Schnieder Trophy. Most entrants were highly streamlined with liquid cooled low drag engines. The thinking here was to use an air cooled radial with individual fairings over each cylinder to cut drag. The payback with the air cooled motor was much less weight and complexity giving a lighter plane with better power to weight ratio. Unfortunatly it didn't work as well as hoped. Tragically the ailerons were cross wired and the Crusader fatally crashed during a test flight.

You're really capturing something of a lost era in aviation with this series. It's a reminder that aircraft don't have to be today's models in order to be well-designed and great-looking.

Agree with steerpike here. You reminds us of the beauty of planes almost forgotten. Your models are meticulously executed. Hipp hurray!!!

I really like these "exploded view" type renderings. Can't wait to see the final render.
