Description
Volucella zonaria is a large hoverfly.. it can reach to a length of almost three centimeters ! It is a species of Southern Europe, but it seems to spread out to the North more and more.
It lays it's eggs in wasp nests.

Excellent macro! And OMG! Gave me the willies! I hate bugs like these! I tend to freeze up and can't do anything at all when they come around. We have some like that here in the US that are called horseflies that get that big! Nasty!
