This is Lamium Purpureum, more commonly referred to as Purple Deadnettle. It grows all over the area of North Carolina I live in (Halifax County), and is soon to surely take over my lawn. To see this plant in bloom click here. Hope you enjoy your day, thanks for looking!

I have tried getting a good shot of this plant several times to little success. The foliage is very nice and cooperative but the little pink polka dotted flowers have avoided my attempts at getting them in focus, lol. I will folow the link and see if you did as well with those as with this. BTW this plant is very simialiar to Henbit and although you have identified it correctly, many will confuse the two. It is covering my yard in Texas also but the mower will be in use soon so no problem here.

Richard's right! Get a goat! We're even thinking of getting one so I don't have to kill myself mowing my yard this summer! Beautiful green leaves on this plant!
