Description

Cole Apollo Maximus with custom displacement. A small render that just came out quite nicely.

I'm impressed. We'll be seeing more of displacement soon, I think.

Thanks folks! I thought it might make quite a nice little first gallery post here at Renderosity. I get so little time to actually do renders at all lately. I'm absolutely crazy about displacement - love to see more in the MP (especially for Apollo). If I could afford something like Z-Brush so I could easily work across seams, I think I'd have a go at more myself.

The lighting is fantastic - care to talk more about your lighting setup?

Lights - (P6)1 IBL, 3 infinites(1 set to specular only at front, 1 to provide extra contrast & shadows from the left, 1 to tweak light from right). But the all important skin material is set up to recieve that lighting nicely - a skin node out of the Alt Diff and Alt Spec channels, controlled by the texture map. There are loads of tuts for various skin material node setups here and elsewhere if you search around and study - well worth the effort). Hope this helps.
