Description

I was there Saturday night and was takeing photos of the blacksmiths working. I took a lot of photos of them working. Well let me tell you; One of them was hammering on a chain for some reason. And another one got a big hammer and the two was hitting this chain. A peice of it fall off the chain and lander on the ground so they put the chain back into the coals to heat it up some more. the peice on the ground they left alone. I look at the peice that fall and I took this close up just to see. Then they started to hammmer the chain again as you see in the bottom photo. One would hit then the other would hit in time. I took a lot more photos and all came out like the bottom photo. I did not know intill I got home and then i saw it on my computor. I had to laff for I thought about what happen and knew when I got close to the red hot metal as you see on top photo it heated up the lens of the camera so that the water in the air got on the len and acted as this type of filter. So please watch out when you shoot close ups on hot stuff the water will get on the lens thanks for reading and comments and all other stuff too

I can see how that can be a serious problem - the red-hot chain makes for a beautiful image - good thing your lens hadn't fogged up before you got that one.

Ouch! That looks hot! I've only seen blacksmith's on tv, movies or read about them in books, so this was a nice 'trip' for me. Thanks Jock! V (:

Hey, at least your lens didn't melt! Great looking shots, the misty look on the bottom is a great effect and the red hot chain is very strange looking. Maybe the art was just is the rhythm of beating on the chain with the hammers.

Yeah, these high temperatures are not without danger (not imagining something of your camera would fall down on it), but it's a thrilling capture!
