Description

UF3, postwork in Photoshop. I need to say something here. I am studying CavalierLady's (Maria Kinsey) free tutorial on masking: http://cavalierladyfractals.com/UFmasks.1.htm I recommend it to everyone who does not understand masks and would like to. It's just perfect. I had a problem though. I can't download the upr. she posted as an example for practice because my programme reads it as a bug. So I had to study the instructions and try to apply them to one of my own images. I was so eager to do so that I just applied them to the file I was working on, a gnarl. Gnarls are very difficult to mask because of their complicated shapes. I wanted to apply texture on the outer green areas and leave the center golden area untextured. I did an approximate job. Perfectly defining the mask outlines was impossible for me, and some of the texture "invaded" the darker gradient surrounding the golden shape. So I rendered twice, with and without the texture, and postworked in Photoshop to eliminate the undesired textured areas. All this is just to say that my poor results were due to my hastiness and not to Maria's tutorial, that is excellent and an eye opener! Thank you, Maria. I'll keep on practicing on easier formulas. And thank you all for viewing, reading this long explanation and commenting!

"Cavalierlady" is a very fitting username for Maria, because she's so gentlewomanly! This is my first posting of this render, I was working on it when I found out about the tutorial.

I've downloaded this tutorial to and have the same difficulties pasting the script. Nevertheless, the tutorial is very clear to use it otherwise. Your image is a beautyful and colorful result.RS

No matter how you accomplished it, it is beautiful! :-) By the way, I'll have to read that, as I have never understood masks either. My problem is that I rarely understand Written tutorials as well!
