Description

This picture was taken with the Nikon 8800, hand held, from 3 miles away. The Jamestown bridge, built under budget and ahead of schedule in 1940 came down today in a fiery blast at 11:00am this morning. They laid 75 pounds of explosives in 350 charges at 20 foot intervals in the bridges 1,100 foot long center span, where the upper supports reached 240 feet. The steel structure plunged 135 feet to the water below. The steel will be recycled and the concrete will be used to make three artificial reefs south of Newport. If you look closely, you can see some of the smoke rings created by the shaped charges being thrust over 100 feet in the air. The blast concussion reached us 12 seconds later and could be felt deep inside the chest cavity. I always look forward to reading your comments, Hi everyone! Randy...
